Heli Skiing TLH in the Coastal Mountains

We’re in the backcountry of the South Chilcotin’s, BC’s prime heli skiing TLH terrain north of Whistler on the east slopes of the Coast Mountains, where deep snowpacks of untracked dry powder is revered through mid-January until the first week of April.

It’s one of many perks with the multi-day Heli skiing TLH package (three, five and seven-day programs) that provides an unrivalled opportunity to ski some of the best chutes and bowls anywhere. The 10-metre average annual snowfall that spans across 3,358 hectares of pristine wilderness among snow-covered pines is light, fluffy and thigh-deep and nothing short of spectacular; it’s the kind of desirable conditions on any heli-skier’s wish list.

Your first day consists of arrival formalities, safety orientation, getting acquainted with your Tyax team and the 29-room lodge — the remote based Tyax Wilderness Resort & Spa on the shores of Tyaughton Lake that provides sumptuous luxury in ultimate refined comfort. You’ll enjoy your first of many four to five-course dinners, breaking bread with your skiing companions among a crackling fire. Chefs utilize as much local ingredients as possible, whether it’s beef from Cache Creek or Pacific salmon, they prepare gourmet fare for the most discerning palate accompanied by a superb wine list.

Enjoy a drink and social activities (from darts and billiards to ping-pong) in the adjacent bar and lounge, an après ski oasis complete with a flat screen TV. When you retire to your (queen or king) guest room, you’ll sink into down comfort, like pillows of powder snow, only to awake rested and refreshed.

After a morning stretch class and fueling up on power foods, your single group (the Signature Package is up to 10 people and two guides) boards a Bell 212 and ascends to untouched terrain, anywhere from 1,219 metres (4,000 feet) and up to 3,048 metres (10,000 feet) for a day of secluded alpine and glacier skiing. We have access to over 375 named runs within an area half the size of Switzerland; on big ski days it’s not uncommon that we log 10,000 metres of vertical.

There’s no waiting to coordinate with others for pick-ups and drop-offs, the chopper is yours for the day without having to share it, which maximizes your time carving lines, one of the ultimate advantages of the TLH heli-ski packages. Spend the day slicing tree gladed runs and stunning glacier upon glacier of unlimited vertical because there’s no maximum to worry about; the Unlimited Vertical Guarantee for all packages means no extra billing no matter how many turns you carve.

Every powder-laced decent is skied in the exquisite quiet of mountain-high tranquility. You won’t hear the whop-whop-whop of acoustic waves from the helicopter’s blades or an idling engine; the chopper remains at the bottom and won’t start up until everyone arrives.

After you’ve feasted on lunch in the mountains and skied your final line of the day, your adventure continues back at the lodge. Relax and rejuvenate with one of many spa treatments like the eucalyptus steam bath or detoxifying infrared sauna. Your over-worked muscles will welcome the Himalayan Sea Salt Body Scrub with essential oils of pine and spruce followed by a full body massage.

When your adventure comes to an end, air transfers depart from the lodge to Pemberton, followed by a land transfer to Vancouver. Book today and Powder Guides will help coordinate the package that’s right for you.

For a more exclusive heli skiing TLH experience than the Signature Package, the intimate Small Group Package consists of one group of four people and two guides. For the ultimate in luxury, inquire about the Private Platinum Package complete with a private chalet, your own service team, plus the highest level of personal care including the Single Group ski program.
