Backcountry Ski Tours in Whistler

Powder Guides offers guided Whistler backcountry ski touring trips, suitable for all abilities. The varied terrain in the Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains and surrounding backcountry provides a world-class backcountry ski touring experience. Whistler ski touring trips take place on the Spearhead Range from Blackcomb into the Garibaldi Park. Or into Musical Bumps and Singing Pass from Whistler, and include all the terrain in between. The skiing here is simply unlimited, we can tour for a lifetime here and still never ski all the runs, and that’s not even half of the area. We can take you to the tops of the peaks or traverse the Fitzsimmons and further into Spearhead Range while you marvel at the mountains and glaciers.

Like all of our days spent in the mountains, touring days start wicked early. After check-in we review gear and check that you’ve got the right gear for the conditions of the day. Skiers may use Telemark or AT gear, while snowboarders may opt for split boards. The specialty skis and snowboards make it possible to use skins on your boards and skis. Skins provide traction on the snow surface, making human powdered skiing possible in the backcountry. In addition to proper ski gear you’ll need an avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel. Our guides will show you how to use and care for your avalanche safety gear. Having the right gear allows you to travel safely and efficiently.

Backcountry terrain ranges from moderate runs to full-on steep, deep alpine bowls. We thoroughly review the weather, snowpack and current conditions before we set the route for each day. During the tour we offer instruction about safety, navigation, understanding the snowpack, where to find the secret powder stash. When you want to head out of bounds and go to the best places, call us, we’ll take you there.
